"When someone shows you who they are, believe them." -Maya Angelou

Dear 20-Something,

Have you ever talked to someone and you're instantly reminded why you can't fool with them? They just do something to your energy, they drain the life out of you, they just irritate your soul!!

The question is, why do we allow access to people who have proven themselves to be unworthy?

Sometimes its because of the history we have with that person or its just simply out of habit, they always have been there. Either way, you know that they are simply no good for you.

You have to draw the line somewhere. Stop letting people and things that have hurt and disappointed you have unlimited access to you. Your world will continue to be chaotic as long as you keep letting people who are toxic pop in and out of your life. Take them off the pedestal that says "that's just how they are" and see them for who they truly are. If they are not helping you grow and develop into who you are becoming then they have no room in your life.

You must create boundaries for yourself and then YOU must respect them. How can you expect people to respect your boundaries and you don't respect them? Too often, we let things that we know are deal breakers, slip through the cracks and when we finally speak up about it, it's too late. Speak up for yourself and let people know up front what you want and expect. Stop letting people slide with any behavior that makes you uncomfortable.

In the end, we have to do what's best for us. We have to stop letting people into our lives that drain our energy, irritate our souls, invade our peace, and ultimately deprive us of our happiness. Love yourself enough to know when to let go.
